Sister Mary Tacheny is celebrating 75 years of service as a School Sister this year. A major milestone to say the least.
After many decades of ministry working in education, Sister Mary worked with the Minnesota Catholic Rural Life conference from 1976 through 1984. Following two years of serving in rural ministries around Mankato, Minnesota, she accepted a post as a director of the Center for Earth Spirituality and Rural Ministry (CESRM now known as Living Earth Center) a sponsored ministry of the School Sisters of Nolte Dame.
When asked about her dedication to the members of Minnesota’s rural communities Sr Mary said, “I’m inspired by educators who speak on rural issues for Minnesota Catholic Conference in order to help farmers and other rural people speak for themselves about issues that concern them most when they come before legislators and other people of power.”
Now, in her 90’s, Sister Mary is an active member of the SSND Earth Committee and continues to serve as an important member of LEC’s Annual Earth Conference Task Force (she has served on the Task Force since they planned the first Earth Conference 15 years ago). Through all her work she continues to champion Living Earth Center.
It has been my distinct pleasure, privilege, and honor to get to know Sr. Mary. She is an absolute dynamo, full of knowledge and a great teacher/role model. I want to thank her and congratulate for all she has given and continues to give.
