Once a month from May through September, LEC Program Manager Cora Uyigue visits Generations Child and Memory Care to bring our Seed to Sauce Programming to their one-of-a-kind child care and memory care facility. "Working with Generations is unique because I get to work with preschoolers and patients in their memory care, making it a beautiful cross-generational experience that the kids and elders get to share together," Uyigue said.
Projects have ranged from planting seed and seedlings and tending to their on site garden, to making scavenger hunt nature bracelets (pictured in photo). According to Uyigue, working with the group from Generations has been a unique and rewarding experience. " I love watching the different ways each participant engages with the activities," she said. "For the elders, many of them simply observe the kids working on the project with their busy little hands, while others get their hands on the activity as well. For the kids, it is beautiful to watch how much excitement and wonder they experience from simply planting a bean seed, making new foods, or playing with flowers. Every participant gets something enjoyable out of the experience."
This is the first year of the partnership between LEC and Generations, but all signs point to it not being the last! "I am so grateful to be partnering with Generations. I have so much fun every time I go over there, and I am excited to bring more programming to them in the future," Uyigue said.
